From Ocean to Capsule

We source our Marine Phytoplankton from the pristine water of Georgia Straight. Its a large body of water that separates Vancouver Island from mainland British Columbia. An area among the most biologically productive marine ecosystems in the world. 

 

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Fisheries and Oceans Canada (FOC) have implemented a weekly Marine Biotoxins monitoring program. It ensures that this area does not contain high levels of any of the harmful toxins such as PSP, ASP, DSP as well as any sewage contamination, oil contamination, or any radiation. 

 

Our quality control personnel checks this information before starting every batch of phytoplankton. Only after we are sure that the area is cleared of any marine biotoxins or pollutants, we begin the process of harvesting.

 


 

Canadian Superfoods Sustainability

 

Responsible harvesting ensures the marine ecosystem remains unaffected. Canadian Sueperfoods, ocean water is pumped into tanks adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, where the phytoplankton naturally reproduces in large quantities (more than 100 million per tank). This reproduction process occurs on Vancouver Island under natural sunlight and environment. A single cultivation batch can produce oxygen equivalent to a 7-hectare forest demonstrating the remarkable photosynthetic efficiency of these microscopic organisms. The remaining water is released back into the ocean with the same amount of phytoplankton that was originally taken, ensuring the balance of the local marine ecosystem is maintained. The production plays an important role in the marine environment the process does not affect the natural balance of the surrounding ecosystem or any living creature.
